A Week of Impact: Closing Out Local Season, Heart Health Awareness, and Giving Back

This past week has been one of reflection, gratitude, and incredible opportunities to give back. From competing for a spot at Miss Indiana to advocating for heart health and returning to the school that shaped me, I’ve been reminded why I do what I do—and how much this journey means to me.

Closing Out the In-Person Local Season

This past Sunday marked the end of the in-person local competition season for Miss Indiana 2025. Competing across the state has been an unforgettable experience, pushing me to grow in ways I never expected. The friendships and memories made were all so amazing. I’ve poured my heart into each competition, refining my talent, sharpening my interview skills, and continuing to spread my Live Without Limits message. While I didn’t capture a title in this in-person season, I’m not done yet. There’s one final opportunity to make it to Miss Indiana—the virtual competition this Sunday. I’m giving it everything I have, because I know I belong on that stage, using my voice to make a difference.

Walking for Heart Health at the VA

On Friday, I had the privilege of walking at the VA Center to raise awareness for heart health. This cause is incredibly close to my heart, and through my work with the American Heart Association, I’ve been able to help spread awareness and advocate for heart health year-round. Being surrounded by people who are just as passionate about making a difference reminded me why I continue to fight for causes that matter.

Returning to My Roots for Read Across America Week

One of the most special moments of my week was returning to my old elementary school, Our Lady of Lourdes, for Read Across America Week. Walking through those halls again, this time as an author, felt surreal. I had the chance to read my book, Carla’s Journey: Embracing Differences with Friends, to the students and donate a copy to their library. Seeing their faces light up as they listened to Carla’s story reminded me why I wrote this book in the first place—to help kids embrace their differences and believe in their potential.

Beyond reading my book, I also had the opportunity to talk with the students about inclusion—what it means, why it matters, and how we can all play a role in making the world more welcoming for everyone. We discussed the Miss America Opportunity, Special Olympics, and many other ways people of all abilities can be involved in something bigger than themselves. Seeing the students engage in these conversations was inspiring, and it reaffirmed my commitment to continuing this work.

This week has been filled with so many powerful experiences that have reminded me of my purpose. Whether it’s competing for Miss Indiana, advocating for important causes, or inspiring the next generation, I’m committed to living without limits—and helping others do the same. One more competition stands between me and the Miss Indiana stage, and I’m ready to give it my all. Let’s do this!

With Gratitude,
